MSUM Offers Summer Discovery Camp

MSU Moorhead, in conjunction with the Center for College Readiness, is offering a Summer Discovery Camp for students completing the 7th, 8th and 9th grades. The residential camp will be held June 15-19 on the MSUM campus.

The camp theme is “Find the Reason Why.” Students will have opportunities to investigate aquatic creatures in area rivers and ponds, to observe and video capture plants growing or bugs transforming, and to explore new ways of getting energy to power our planet. Hands-on activities will include field trips, tie dying, and viewing the night sky, among others.

The camp costs $500, which includes all meals. Many full and partial scholarships are available to Minnesota students. North Dakota students may also attend. Preference for full scholarships is given to students who attend one of these College Readiness schools: Perham, New York Mills, Park Rapids, Lake Park/Audubon, or Moorhead.  Local students may attend as day campers for $250.

The camp is directed by Shawn Ellingboe, MSUM chemistry professor and outreach director for the College of Social and Natural Sciences. MSUM faculty will teach the sessions, and MSUM science and math students will serve as teaching and resident assistants.
