MSUM alumnus named news photographer, editor of the year

MSUM alumnus Chad Nelson ’07 (mass communications), a photojournalist with KARE 11 in the Twin Cities, won two top honors in the 2017 National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Video Best of Photojournalism awards, in what’s being called an “unprecedented sweep.”

Nelson was named both the Ernie Crisp News Photographer of the Year and Editor of the Year at a ceremony June 2.  Read the rest of this entry →

Spring Commencement today

MSUM will award degrees to about 875 students during its spring commencement program Friday, May 12 in the university’s Nemzek Fieldhouse.  

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include graduates of the College of Education and Human Services, College of Science, Health and the Environment, and Graduate Studies.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will include graduates of the College of Arts, Media and Communication, College of Business and Innovation, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Graduate Studies.  Read the rest of this entry →

Friday, May 12, be a part of the Annual Alumni Flag Corps. Please join us as we smile and wave flags, welcoming Dragons into the alumni family for the ceremony. Please show up 15 minutes prior to the ceremony so we can be prepared for the graduates as they walk by. This is a great way for you to see the new grads and for them to see you celebrating their success and graduation. Commencement brings to light the importance of why we are here. MSUM expects 875 students to graduate May 12

Nominate a colleague or professor for the prestigious Dille Lecturer Award

Nominate your respected colleagues or favorite professors for the prestigious Dille Lecturer Award! Successful nominees will demonstrate how they transform the world by transforming students’ lives.

Each year, students, faculty and staff are asked to submit a nomination for the faculty member they believe best exemplifies the award criteria. The Provost’s Council reviews the nominations and selects a recipient. That faculty member will be honored at a Fall Semester 2017 awards ceremony during which they will present a lecture of their choosing, and receive the award’s $1,200 honorarium. Allen Carter featured on Prairie Public’s Dimensions in Jazz

Tonight, MSUM’s own Allen Carter will be featured on Dimensions in Jazz. Dimensions in Jazz airs on Prairie Public on Friday nights at 11 p.m. and is produced by Bob Schieffer (Media Services). Dr. Carter joins Bob in the studio to talk about his newest CD release Time On My Hands. The show will feature music from that CD. Prairie Public is located at 91.9 FM in the Fargo-Moorhead area as well as on transponders throughout North Dakota and on their app.

Dr. Mark Meister is Chairperson of the Department of Communication at North Dakota State University. He received his Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Nebraska.

Hi open forum is from 1:30 to 2:30 in CMU 203.

Fourteen MSUM University Theatre students recently attended the Region 5 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in Des Moines, Iowa. Open forums for Dean of the College of Arts, Media and Communication

Three finalists for Dean of the College of Arts, Media, and Communication will present open forums starting Friday, Feb. 10.

Dr. Laurie Blunsom is Chair of the Schools of Art and Performing Arts at MSUM. She received her Ph.D. in musicology from Brandeis University. Her open forum is Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in CMU 203.

Dr. Earnest Lamb is Chair of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts at Fayetteville State University, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He received his Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Texas. His open forum is Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in CMU 203.

Dr. Mark Meister is Chairperson of the Department of Communication at North Dakota State University. He received his Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Nebraska. His open forum is Friday, Feb. 10, from 1:30 to 2:30 in CMU 203.

Support senior seminar film ‘The Lost Girls’

Film Production students, AvriElle Becker, Tannah Gillman, Christopher Sanchez, and Rachel Soland look to Kickstarter to raise funds for their senior seminar film, The Lost Girls. Film students are responsible for finding the funds to make their passion projects come to life. Dr. Krajewski’s presentation received with rave reviews

Dr. Michael J. Krajewski (Music Industry and Guitar) recently presented a music technology presentation at the Jazz Education Network conference in New Orleans, LA. His presentation “Moving on up: Upgrading from GarageBand to a professional Digital Audio Workstation” was received with rave reviews.

Kyja K-Nelson Named Television Academy Foundation Faculty Fellow

The Television Academy Foundation named Kyja K-Nelson, School of Media Arts & Design, one of the 2016 Faculty Fellows.
