MSUM has a new chapter, Gamma Eta Rho Omega, of the national academic honor society in gerontology, Sigma Phi Omega. SPO is the national academic honor and professional society in gerontology established to recognize excellence of those who study gerontology and aging (www.sigmaphiomega.org).
Local chapters serve as links within their respective communities to promote interaction between gerontology educators, students, alumni, and local professionals. The chapters provide opportunities for personal and professional interaction, sharing of concerns, discussion of issues, and service activities. Student membership is open to undergraduates who are majoring or minoring in gerontology and who are in at least their second term of enrollment with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3. Students are inducted into the society each spring. The faculty advisor is Dr. Sue Humphers-Ginther who can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
