Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson, Cinema Arts & Digital Technologies, will premiere her documentary, Teen Writes: The Group that Opened the Box, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 in the Sidney J. Lee Auditorium at Bismarck State College.

The 56-minute documentary follows a group of teens, along with writer Karen Van Fossan and clinical psychologist Dr. Kathy Blohm, who formed a creative writing and performance troupe called The Group that Opened the Box. The Group explores everything from body image and LGBT identity to teen pregnancy and bullying. In the heart of North Dakota, these outspoken teens challenge the public silence about… everything. Note: This film has not been rated. Parental guidance is suggested.

K-Nelson’s screening launches the Film 100 Cinema Society’s 2012 screening series. The event is free and open to the public. A discussion with K-Nelson and co-producers Dr. Kathy Blohm and Karen Van Fossan will follow the film.
