Music Theatre Fargo-Moorhead will launch its sixth season with CHICAGO, THE MUSICAL, September 8-10 and 15-18.

CHICAGO is a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery. Caught up in the sensationalized decadence of the 1920s, Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer, murders her secret lover after he threatens to walk out on her.

Roxie lands in the Cook County jail, where she meets up with fellow murderess/jazz club legend, Velma Kelly. The two publicity seeking vixens battle for the support of Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn, who shrewdly uses the media to transform his clients’ malicious crimes into a razzle dazzle of carefully mastered headlines. Roxie achieves instant celebrity status, but will her “15 minutes” of fame last long enough to see her acquitted and launched into superstardom?

With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy® Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.

The cast features local favorites Craig A. Ellingson, Angela Schulz, Katherine Paynter, Ellery Tofte, Sam Krauth and Kathryn Hanson along with a talented local ensemble/orchestra.
