MSUM Student Organizations are helping to organize a campus wide Trick-o-Canning event on Friday, October 31! Any students, staff or faculty that would like to participate should meet in the CMU Main Lounge at 4:45pm on Halloween, October 31. Shireen Alemadi will meet you, break everyone up into groups, and give you a map of the neighborhoods in Moorhead to visit. We’ll also have some MSUM vehicles to help with transporting people to the neighborhoods and to bring food items back to the CMU. But, if you have a vehicle be ready to use it if need be. Nepal Night 2014 is being organized on 25th of October, this Saturday from 5 PM- 9:30 PM. The cultural event takes you on a journey to Nepal. This year’s theme is “Chinari” translated “Identity” in English. So brace yourselves to learn what identifies and makes Nepal stand out as a country among others.

The African Student Union, ASU, presents African Night 2014 at MSU Moorhead. This event is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st 2014 at the CMU Ballroom. The ASU E-board cordially invites all faculty and students to share in our special occasion. The doors open at 5:30pm for booth presentations and the event goes from 6:00pm-9:00pm. This year for Halloween, Housing and Residential Life is working on a new idea for Trick or Treating! We are asking for your help in our First Annual Trunk or Treat! What is Trunk or Treat you ask? Trunk or Treat gives you, your office, your student organization, or team a chance to decorate your car with a theme. Bring your decorated vehicle to G-6 Lot to pass out candy to our community from 5:30-8pm on Thursday October 30th. This opportunity gives you and your group a chance to participate in a long standing tradition with a new twist! Not sure about sponsoring a car? Bring the family and enjoy Trunk or Treating, a mini carnival, refreshments and rides on the Dragon Express. Need Trunk or Treat ideas? Google has a ton of images just waiting for you to try!

A fire pit will be set up for to make smores and hot dogs and we will have pumpkins to decorate as well! See you all there!

There will be some new plants today! Visit the Langseth Hall Atrium Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to stock up on some wonderful plants for your office, home or dorm room. Plants range in price from $1 to $8. Tri-Beta will also be selling some cool new t-shirts this year. They have an image of DNA and say “Checks itself before it wrecks itself” The t-shirts will be $12 each or 2 for $20.

Friday, Sept. 26 – The Inauguration Viewing party begins at 1:30 p.m. More than 350 prizes, #AnneFan t-shirts and free food will be given away. One of the prizes is lunch at Anne’s home. The Inauguration ceremony is at 2 p.m. with reception to follow. Friday night brings student organization, Athletic and Athletic reunions at various locations throughout campus and the community. Dragon Volleyball once again competes at 7 p.m. in Nemzek. Royalty Coronation, Burning of the M and fireworks follow the volleyball game on the football practice field. The evening ends with free s’mores at Holmquist.
Saturday, Sept. 27 – The annual Homecoming parade begins at 11 a.m. on 11th St. The parade route curves through campus ending at the Dragon Zone tailgate party at Nemzek. Campus & Library tours, a book signing and silent auction lead into Dragon Soccer at noon, Dragon Football at 2 p.m. and Dragon Volleyball at 5 p.m. at all Nemzek. The evening ends with Scratch & Bang at the Homecoming Dance.
Sunday, Sept. 28 – Sunday brings the final Homecoming event, Dragon Soccer at 1 p.m. at Nemzek.

Minnesota State University Moorhead will celebrate Dragon pride during its annual homecoming celebration Sept. 22-28 with a wide variety of student, alumni and community events to coincide with the presidential inauguration of Anne Blackhurst.
Kicking off the week is a community block party 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 on the campus mall. There will be food, games, art and music by Heart & Soul.
Pres. Anne will put on her running shoes for Laps for the Long Run at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Nemzek stadium. To date, $1.12 million has been pledged for this fundraiser to benefit student scholarships. Alumni, faculty and staff, students, community members, and others can register to run alongside Anne or attend the event to cheer all on the runners. Details can be found at mnstate.edu/laps.
Distinguished alumni being honored this week will talk about “Lessons Learned” to students and community members at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in the Center for the Arts Gaede Stage.
The presidential inauguration of Anne Blackhurst is at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 followed by a reception. Both events will be in the Center for the Arts. A viewing party will be held on the campus mall.
