David Holsen ’72 (mass communications, elementary education) passed away peacefully the evening of April 10 at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. He worked at MSUM for 31 years, retiring in December 2009 from the building services department as a management analyst supervisor. His wife, Jill Milford Holsen ’88 (English) and ’05 (master of liberal arts), also retired in January 2010 after 31 years at the university, most recently as director of international programs.
Jill writes: “Dave had been having health issues over the past 18 months, but never complained. He insisted on going on our trip to England despite not feeling great. We had bought my mother’s retirement apartment in Exeter, Devon, England, after she passed away a year ago January. We did a lot of traveling around the area on local buses and trains (as homeowners, we were entitled to free bus passes. It was one of David’s proudest possessions.) David loved it here. Ben (their son) arrived in time to say goodbye to his father. David will be laid to rest in the Exeter crematorium. He would have turned 65 on April 11.”
A service commemorating Dave’s life will be held in Moorhead in the near future.
