Nursing student receives national scholarship

Melinda Thompson, a senior in the baccalaureate nursing program, attended the National Gerontological Nursing Association (NGNA) Convention in Louisville, Kentucky October 13-16. Thompson was one of two students in the country to receive the Student Leadership Award, which covered the cost of the conference.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Unbridled Nursing Innovation and Care for the Older Adults.” The sessions covered information about the future demands for nursing preparation to meet population needs, roles and opportunities for nurses in geriatrics, and resources about practice opportunities and certifications.
NGNA has approximately 1,600 members nationwide.
